Andy is an industry-leading, integrated operations expert. His unique, comprehensive approach is built around an intimate understanding of operations and organisational culture from over 30 years’ mining industry experience including senior management roles with major mining companies.
His recent engagements include the design of Rio Tinto Iron Ore's Future Operating Platform, and the global integration of the Komatsu and Joy Global mining businesses.
Chairman & Founding Partner
Lionel has extensive experience in designing and implementing transformational projects across several continents, including Africa and other emerging markets.
Well-known as an industry-level strategist, change catalyst and executive team facilitator, he enjoys adding a unique blend of hard-nosed experience, extensive organisation architecture insights and strategic thinking to executive teams.
Lionel’s clients over the past two decades include BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Newcrest, ConocoPhillips, Woodside and Komatsu. He was a founding partner of VCI.
Graeme has executive-level experience in strategy development, innovation and large-scale business transformation. His consulting assignments have involved CEO-level strategy across most mineral commodities, as well as services companies, major universities and industry bodies.
Graeme was a founding partner of VCI and developed the VCI Mining Innovation: State of Play survey series and View from the C-Suite CEO interviews. He is a director of several companies founded by VCI, including DecisionNext; a San Francisco based analytics services start-up.
Gideon is a master facilitator and technology visionary with unrivalled expertise in scenario planning. His career started at Anglo American where he established an internal consulting team focused on strategy design, restructuring, and technology visioning and implementation.
He has worked with most of the world’s top 20 resources corporations and was lead consultant for Rio Tinto's Industry Leadership Program and AngloGold Ashanti's Technology Innovation. He was a founding partner of VCI.
Partner & MD Australia
Shane is a senior executive within the mining industry with 20 years of experience at Rio Tinto in both technical and operational roles in Australia, internationally and across multiple commodities. He is the former MD of Argyle Diamonds and has a proven track record of success and a reputation for business turnarounds.
Shane is the Head of Integrated Operational Products and MD Australia for NextGenOpX overseeing project delivery of business wide integration projects and development of technology and operational products designed to deliver enhanced value chain performance and sustainable results.
Partner & Chief Commercial Officer
Chris has 15 years’ commercial, strategy and operational consulting experience with NextGenOpX, VCI and KPMG.
He has worked as lead consultant for strategic repositioning, organisational redesign and transformation projects for mining, oil and gas companies including BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Peabody, AngloGold Ashanti, and Woodside. His extensive transaction experience includes 4 years with KPMG’s M&A Advisory Team in London.
MD South America
Stephan is based in Rio de Janeiro and is establishing our South American office. He has 25 years’ global technical and management experience including senior management roles with both major commodity producers and consumers.
His recent roles include COO of African Minerals, CEO of Anglo American Iron Ore Brazil and MD of Rio Tinto's HIsmelt division.
Andrew has had senior leadership roles in strategic, operational and commercial areas in North America and Australia with Rio Tinto, driving business strategy and planning, and leading organization-wide change.
He has applied his strong financial and commercial background across all parts of business, working in operations, procurement and inbound supply chain, business improvement, sales and marketing, global mergers and acquisitions.
Ernst has a strong blend of operational, technical and project experience and has led a wide range of improvement projects for resource companies around the globe.
He is particularly skilled at assessing and analysing multi-dimensional challenges spanning operational, technical and strategic issues; and synthesising the information to develop integrated and sustainable solutions.
Stephen has extensive experience in business transformation, operational improvement and programme management in the Government, Healthcare and Mining sectors across Australia and Africa.
Stephen has over 8 years’ commercial, strategy and operational consulting experience with NextGenOpX and PwC.
Lucy's professional experience has afforded her a reputation for creativity and innovation. Drawing on over 20 years of mining, engineering, planning and facilitation expertise, she has a keen understanding of technical details and the ability to draw out and resolve critical issues.
Lucy specialises in linking operations, asset performance processes, people and commercial systems to maximise productivity.
Dean is a mining expert with over 30 years of experience in surface and underground mining operations, major projects, business improvement, business development and executive management.
Prior to joining NextGenOpX, Dean was the Mining Productivity Consultant for JoyGlobal in the Africa Region. Other recent roles include General Manager of Khutala Colliery, one of the largest underground mining operations in South Africa, where Dean also served on the BECSA executive leadership team.
Themba is a master facilitator and has extensive experience in operational improvement, business transformation and supply chain.
He has over 10 years’ Lean Leadership experience in operational, production management, project management and management consulting roles across several heavy industries including petrochemical, mining, manufacturing and refurbishment.
Pieter du Plessis
Pieter has strong cross-functional technical, analytical, financial and project management expertise. His experience spans complex mega-projects and operations in the mining and energy industries across South Africa, UK, Brazil, USA and Canada.
Pieter's understanding of the complete mine-to-market value chain allows him to deliver sustainable business and operational improvements using data analytics, production and financial simulation, and a variety of operational improvement tools.
Martyn is an energetic, visionary and decisive leader with extensive experience across the oil and gas, mining, industrial and AEC markets, focused on the Asia-Pacific and North American regions. He has worked in a variety of executive roles, acquiring diverse experience across all stages of an assets life-cycle.
Martyn has specific experience in business systems design and development through the development of digital and technologies strategies to deliver improved bottom line value to customers and shareholders.
